Janani Iyer was born on 31 March 1987 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She is also called by the name ‘Janu’. She attended D.A.V. Boys Senior Secondary School, Gopalapuram, Chennai, and did her Engineering in Computer Science from Saveetha Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She wanted to become an actress since the age of 4. Following her passion, she started giving auditions in order to become a successful model and actress.
Janani Iyer was born into the Hindu Brahmin family. She lives with her parents in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is reported that she is romantically linked with an actor Atharvaa but she denied any such news and said that Atharvaa is only his best friend & nothing else. While she was studying in college, she started her career as a model. She has worked in more than 150 TVC ads. In 2009, during her modeling career, she gave a cameo appearance as a background model in the Tamil movie ‘Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru’.
In 2010, she again gave a short appearance in the movie ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa’.She debuted as a lead actress in the Tamil movie ‘Avan Ivan’ (2011) in which her performance as a ‘Constable Baby’ was critically acclaimed by the viewers and won Film Fans Association Award for Sensational Debut Heroine. She has done a variety of roles in several films in the South Indian film Industry. She has appeared in many Tamil and Malayalam movies like ‘Paagan’, ‘3 Dots’, ‘Thegidi’, ‘Koothara’, ‘Ithu Thaanda Police’, ‘Adhe Kangal’, and many more. In 2015, she won Thomas Edison Award for the ‘OKJ’ print ad. In 2018, she was one of the contestants in the reality show ‘Bigg Boss Tamil 2’.
