Dr. Nene was 13 when he taught himself to program on an Apple IIe in the late 1970s and early 1980s when computers were just entering the home and tech titans like Apple and Microsoft were fledgling start-ups.
His drive to learn more and use the skills he gained for something impactful led him to create a computer software company that developed products for real estate agents and educational purposes when he was only 15. Dr. Nene was so committed to knowledge that at this time he was also the president of the school computer science club and taught other students how to program.
